blogging about a trip has taught me to organize pictures and summarize the adventures. this mission trip through my church/elementary school was incredible. i laughed, cried, sang, toured, rarely slept (dirty floors are not as comfortable as beds, let me tell you), worked, prayed, and built stronger relationships with old classmates that by the end of the trip i consider lifelong friends.
the trip began on july 10th as 80 people pulled out of our church parking lot in minneapolis in a school bus, three vans, and a truck full of bags. the bus had an auxiliary cord that reached the last seat, the music was loud, and the bus was hot as ever (no air conditioning). we drove all day and slept in south bend, indiana and then the next day we slept in pittsburg, pennsylvania. on sunday, we finally reached beautiful philly and quickly settled in.
our main focus in philadelphia was food. the city struggles with what is called food deserts. food deserts are areas that do not have access to healthy food- forcing them to purchase all their food from corner stores. we mainly worked with two groups that i was so impressed with (links in pictures, please check them out!)
im so thankful for the opportunity to help out the city of philadelphia and enjoy the people around me a little more. this trip took me out of my comfort zone with no phones, long shorts, and uncomfortable sleeping situations, but i would not have had it any other way. a huge thank you to everyone who made this experience so enjoyable, i cannot wait for next year!
