this weekend, i, jane, got to go to the chicago area. i was invited to join my lacrosse coach and a team of girls she had gathered from all around minnesota to play in a tournament in naperville, Illinois. from the fourteen hours, round trip, in the backseat, to meeting some really great people, to making many trips to dunkin’ donuts, here was my weekend, pictures, and some thoughts i have gathered.
so first, we rounded up a group of thirteen girls and two coaches and loaded up cars friday morning and left the twin cities by 5am! one of the coolest things i witnessed this weekend was seeing this many girls who had never played on the same team together, some how, connect and be successful through, what i believe, were simply just good attitudes and a hundred and ten percent effort put into the game. special thanks to those girls and my coaches!
the drive from minneapolis to naperville took us about seven-ish hours. we made sure to stop for plenty of snacks and treats. the drive was filled with good conversations, a few naps, frantically searching for coins for the tolls on multiple occasions, and some good music. here were the songs that we couldn’t get enough of, were great background noise, and that we had fun singing along to:
habits of my heart by james young
forest gump by frank ocean
hideaway by kieza
bad blood by taylor swift
someone new by hozier
believe by mumford and sons
you found me by the fray
fast car by tracy chapman
falling in love at a coffee shop by landon pigg
chasing cars by snow patrol
food was a top priority between many hungry athletes and long car rides, which presented me with the opportunity to try two new places this weekend. they are not technically new and nothing super special, but they are just two places i don’t currently have in minnesota, so obviously i thought they were amazing. these places were dunkin’ donuts and shake shack. both were wonderful, delicious, and i hope they start to appear back home very soon.
even though we stayed in naperville, which is about forty minutes from downtown chicago, we drove into the city to explore on saturday night. it was a beautiful drive and a great way to spend the night.
we enjoyed being classic tourists and taking pictures at the bean, just taking in the city night life, and pointing out special places around town to some of our friends who were visiting there for the first time. (excuse the bad lighting– it was getting dark out but we got to sneak in a few pictures before the sun went down)
i wore a fuchsia colored fit and flare free people dress like this one and this , navy blue high top converse , a navy blue kate spade polka dot wallet , and necklace similar to something like this. some other outfits worn by the team included loose fitting black dresses, striped tee shirt dresses like this one or this or this or this, and floral sundresses like here and here.
i had decided to go on this mini trip only five days prior to departing. usually, i am not too into making such last minute plans, but i have no regrets and very much enjoyed every part of this adventure. another great weekend with many memories to last me a long time. a little shout to some people that made this weekend so fun: ellie, lax and i will miss you next year, thanks for laughing and being immature with me and greta, you’re just the best so keep being you. per usual, photos are from my vsco (@janeck) and my instagram (@janekolar_). thanks for following along with laura and i as we adventure our way through summer and our first summer blogging.
