i (laura) just got back from argentina a few days ago! my family makes this trip about every two or three years to go visit our family and soak up some sun. i enjoyed visiting my family’s vineyard, horseback riding, a mud spa, morning coffee at my favorite bakery, and rafting. argentina is very near and dear to my heart- the mountains, vineyards, and family oriented people never fail to inspire me.

here are some pictures!

loved running around the vineyard
rafting on the mendoza river
if you’re wondering, the river is brown because the water’s current pulls up the sand and dirt from the bottom

and now, some travel tips!

  1. keep an open mind. plans can change and you need to accept that.
  2. missing a flight isn’t the end of the world, as my mom told me “that’s life.”
  3. bring a sweater or sweatshirt even if you’re headed somewhere warm, airplanes can get cold and weather can change too.
  4. don’t forget sunglasses! you’ll need them in both the winter and summer. (see our sunglass post here)
  5. pack melatonin and lots of advil because time changes and long flights can make it hard to sleep and headaches happen.
  6. get up and walk around the airport between your flights, don’t sit at the gate for hours because you’ll have enough time to sit on your flight.
  7. drink lots of water and eat healthy on the plane to avoid feeling and looking sluggish after flying.
  8. always bring a camera and a notebook.  cameras capture how things look and notebooks are great for remembering how a place entertained you, felt, smelled, challenged you, etc.
  9. it’s okay to travel alone! you’ll be surprised with how much you learn about yourself and other cultures when you are focused on them and not the people you have traveled with.
  10. talk to the person seated next to you on the flight! when i was younger i always wanted to sit away from my family so that i could get to know someone new on the flight. i still remember conversations i had with a helicopter pilot, diehard dallas cowboy fans, and a veterans that were seated next to me on the flight.
  11. turn off your phone. traveling is a great time to pull away from social media and what is going on at home. it’s important to be present and attentive when traveling to get the same experience.
  12. traveling is a great investment. obviously plane tickets and hotels are not cheap but it is so important to travel. seeing other parts of the world opens your mind and will deepen your appreciation for humanity.
  13. sway away from resorts and large hotels– when you stay on a large resort/hotel you lose a lot of what the country (or city) has to offer. mix it up and try renting a house or apartment to get a better idea of what everyday life is like there.

we hope that 2016 presents you with the opportunity to travel!
